What's Hot Now: Thrifting

For years, thrifting has been a way for fashionistas to create an outfit that no one else could duplicate. It is a lot more popular now with the recent recession and the high demand for people to create a style that is like no other. With the vintage material and one-of-a-kind patterns of the clothes, it is impossible for two people to come out with the same outfit. Pairing oversized button ups, sweaters, blazers, and more with your own bottoms, shoes, and purse will complete your look. You will walk out the door looking like you have your own personal stylist.

Thrifting can be very overwhelming with all of the things there. They try to keep the clothes organized, but sometimes it's hard to keep up with. For the most part, thrift stores have the clothing separated by bottoms, tops, and jackets, sometimes by color, and sometimes by size. This makes it easier for you to find what you are looking for. When thrifting, it is important to go in with an open mind. Unlike regular clothing stores, you cannot go in, find what you're looking for, and be done. You are going to find things that you would never imagine wearing, patterns you would otherwise look past, and oversized clothing you wouldn't think to put on. Just keep an open mind; if you feel yourself looking at an item more than once, that's the item you want to go for.

Many people shutter at the thought of wearing someone else's used clothes. With thrifting comes sanitary rules. To ensure you are staying clean with your purchases, be sure to: 1) Only purchase tops and jackets/blazers from thrift stores. Try not to purchase bottoms, leggings, underclothes, bathing suits, or any other personal items that could transfer bacteria. 2) Take the clothes to the cleaners before you wear them. This will ensure that the clothes are clean and the material isn't ruined. 3) Inspect the clothing thoroughly before buying them to be sure there are no unusual stains and/or spots.

So now that you know the basics, happy thrifting!
